Late tasks

Have you considered applying the RTAI watchdog utility to your system to handle the late tasks? Read the documentation in the watchdog subdirectory of RTAI for all the possible options the watchdog gives you (there are *all* kinds of options for handling late and misbehaving tasks).

I am not sure if the watchdog is intended only for systems under development or for systems in production, but it can be configured to reset or even kill tasks and manage your system for you. Perhaps someone else can comment on this who is familiar with the watchdog (I have yet to try it myself).
